Some of the success stories of the Public Enterprises Department are:
- Assam State Government established two new PSUs viz. Assam Food & Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd. and Assam State Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. The Public Investment Board (PIB) also recommended for Incorporation of two more PSUs viz. Assam Medical Services Corporation Ltd. and Assam Inland Water Transport Corporation Ltd.
- Another major acheivement is the approval of the 1028 crore expansion project of 500 tpd Methanol & 200 tpd Acetic Acid of Assam Petrochemicals Ltd by the PIB.
- Approval of PIB for setting up of a cement plant with a capacity of one million tonne per annum by Assam Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. through Joint Venture with Birla Corporation Ltd.
- Approved of PIB for investment of Rs 65.00 crore by Assam Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. for revival of M/s Prag Bosimi Synthetics Ltd. (A JVC)
- The State PSUs significantly improved in updating their arrear accounts of few PSUs by 5 years to 20 years with continuous effort of Public Enterprises Department in co-ordination with the Office of the AG (Audit), Assam,
- Institutional Studies had been conducted for implementation of Memorandum of Understanding between PSUs and Government and on Training Need Analysis.
- Honorarium of part-time non-official Chairpersons of the State PSEs was enhanced from Rs.1000/- to a maximum of Rs.10,000/- per month.
- Public Enterprises Department actively carried forward the reform process to ensure release of employee liabilities, VRS benefits including CPF dues, updating of accounts, maintenance and disposal of assets of 17 (seventeen) closed PSUs closed under AGPRMP funded by ADB and under the State Budget.
- The Task Force for public sector reforms agreed with the transfer of land of closed PSUs to Industries & Commerce Department for the creation of land bank to promote investment in the State.
- As per the report of the Comptroller & Auditor General of India, 14 PSUs earned profit during the year 2014-15. And as per Public Enterprises Department’s Report, 16 PSUs earned profit during this period. Three SLPEs viz. (i) Assam Gas Company Ltd., (ii) Assam Co-operative Jute Mills Ltd. and (iii) Assam Mineral Development corporation Ltd. declared dividend during the year 2014-15.
